Senapathy Kris Gopalakrishnan:
Kris Gopalakrishnan is the vice chairman of Infosys which is a global IT consulting service in India. Infosys was founded by group of seven people and he was one of them.
He was born on 5th April 1955 in Trivandrum. He completed his schooling from Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School. He pursued M.Sc. Physics Madras in 1977. His parents wanted him to pursue medicine but unfortunately he failed to occupy seat in the examination. His inspiration was his teacher C.C Phillips who had helped him in his math. He could clear the Indian Institute of Management entrance examination but not the interview. He took his past experience in a positive way and completed M.Tech. in Computer Science from IIT, Madras in 1979. He used IBM 370 mainframe computer to write his own program. Later he joined as a normal software engineer in Patni Computers as the founder NarendraPatni asked him to work with him in Mumbai.
He became the chairman of the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and vice chairman of the Board for Information Technology Education Standards by the government of Karnataka. He was made the executive Chairman of Jetsynthesys. He was also appointed as a member of the reconstituted United Nations Global Compact Board and was elected as the president of the industry body Confederation of Indian Industry.
About Infosys
Infosys is a global IT service firm which is the second largest IT Company in India. It offers software products to banking industry and provides end-to-end business solutions.In the year 1981, the seven entrepreneurs along with Kris started the Infosys. They focused on design, development, implementation and support of information systems for clients in the U.S. For seven years he headed the technical operations of Infosys which was a joint venture between Infosys and KSA in Atlanta, Georgia.
He became the Chief Operating Officer in 2002 and later became the CEO of Infosys Technologies. His core responsibilities were Customer Services, Technology, Investments and Acquisitions. He handed over the CEO responsibility to another co-founder of InfosysS D Shibulal. Under his leadership he doubled the revenues and added 60,000 employees to the company.He was with the company for 33 years. He set up Axilor Ventures which is a business incubator to back startups. His net worth is about $1.76 Billion which makes a place in India’s rich list.
As a Philanthropist
Kris contributed $40 Million to the Pure Sciences to develop a Centre for Brain Research at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He donates $1 million yearlyto provide help for the poor students for the diseases like Alzheimer’s and senile dementia.
Award
In 2009, he was selected to Thinkers 50 which was an elite list of global business thinkers.
In 2011, he was also selected for one of the winners of the 2nd Asian Corporate Director Recognition Awards by Corporate Governance Asia.
In 2011, He was conferred with Padma Bhushanby Government of India.
He was voted the top CEO in Asia’s Top Executives.
